The development of synthetic dyes in the mid-19th century triggered the end of the large-scale market for natural dyes. Synthetic dyes, which could be produced in large quantities, quickly superseded natural dyes in the commercial textile industry. However, the damage done to the environment and to human well-being by synthetic dyes is indisputable.

By employing non-bleached, non-dyed original color, herbal-dyed and indigo-dyed fabrics, we hope to inspire people to change how we dress ourselves and decorate our homes and realize that our choices have a real impact on the lives of people around the world. We are committed to becoming responsible consumers.

Wherever it is possible, we use naturally dyed fabrics hand-woven by weavers in some of China’s remote communities. We also work with other social entrepreneurs when it comes to wool products. All the natural-dyed scarves and shawls are hand-woven in Tibetan areas of northwest Gansu and Qinghai.
